Designing all buildings, however small and simple, in full 3d using Graphisoft Archicad software, improves designs at many levels and helps client’s involvement in the design process. It also assists in the presentation of designs to planners and in communication with sub-contractors and engineers. Fly-throughs, sun studies and cutaways are all relatively simple to carry out and, if a project is ‘deeply’ modelled, the quantities can also be taken off assisting and speeding the quantification and costing process.

Conceptual design work with visualisation is a service offered to architects and other designers which has lead to some productive collaborations. For instance, work for Locate Architects has included Ullapool swimming pool extension, Ullapool Arts Centre and Fair Isle Bird Observatory.
